  • Family correspondence of Dr. James Holmes of Charlottesville, Va., and William Holmes of Baltimore, particularly letters to Alexander Rutherford "Ruffy" Holmes at the University of Virginia. Topics include the building of "Kenwood," voting for Wendell Wilkie in the 1940 election, avoiding the World War II draft and obtaining a Woodrow Wilson Memorial Scholarship
  • In addition the collection contains financial papers; invitations to social events; and genealogical information on the Holmes and related Beggs, Bruce, Burns, Cabell, Riddell, Rutherford, Seddon, Smith, and Wylie families including a copy of the will of Thomas Beggs, information on some of the family's Irish origina, description of an encounter between Sallie Bruce Seddon and Col. Ulric Dahlgren, and her efforts to stop and then alleviate the imprisonment of James A. Seddon after the war, and information on several old Virginia homes including "Sabot Hill," and "Red Hill."
