  • The diary gives an account of life on Scott's farm; the weather, drought, and nature observations; and family events including a Boyd family reunion. There are many reminiscences comparing life in the present with the past, and frequent comments on the political climate of the country including problems of inflation, unjust smearing of Hoover, dislike for Roosevelt as in the "hapless Roosevelt administration that pays men to do useless work (NRA) and no hope for the Republicans..."
  • The diary also contains assorted musings of Scott on topics as diverse as the poem "Maud Muller," abandoned farms, and a vacant house. There are also scattered accounts, a breeding record for cows and a few sketches
