Biographical or historical data
Samuel Chilton was a lawyer in Warrenton, Virginia who served for one term in the United States House of Representatives from 1843 to 1845 (representing the Whig party). The 1840 He was also a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention from 1850 to 1851. He is listed in the 1850 census as owning 4 slaves. During the trial of John Brown in 1859 (for Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry), he was appointed as a defense attorney. He is buried in the Warrenton Cemetery.
