David Shaver condemns the excommunication of the African Baptist Church by the Lynchburg Baptist Church and refers to the rights of all Baptists as guaranteed by the Baptist denomination. Shaver discusses the place of the African Baptist Church within the Strawberry Association of Baptist Churches (in Lynchburg, Va., and surrounding counties) and notes that the African Baptist Church was recognized as a church by all the other churches of the Association. Shaver concludes with a request that the African Baptist Church be allowed to have meetings with Rev. James C. Clopton preaching
