- The collection also contains the journal of John Bruce, 1836-1854, transcripts of the same, and lists of students at the Winchester Academy, with notes on Natural Philosophy kept by Bruce and miscellaneous Bruce family papers
- The collection also contains some Balmain family legal documents; three items pertaining to the Winchester Colonization Society, including a brief minute book; a "chart of distances from Winchester, Va., and some miscellaneous printed materials
