Summary
Speech given to the Ausable Club (St. Hubert's, New York) in which Shaw attempts to find "the most beautiful line in poetry." She recalls Gustav Davidson's (1895-1971) use of Nietzche's line:" One must have chaos within to give birth to a dancing star" and Yeats's "Had I heaven's embroidered cloths" and concludes that it can never be found because "we are individuals with individual tastes." Signed "Elizabeth Shaw" and beneath "Elizabeth Shaw Montgomery."
